Abbie C. Halloran
Graduate Student abigail.halloran@emory.edu
Abbie is a native of Birmingham, Alabama, and an alum of The University of Alabama. During her undergraduate studies, she worked in the fields of nephrology, organometallics, and polymers. At The University of Alabama at Birmingham, she studied SOX9 quantification of the kidney in wild-type mice following induced cisplatin treatment under Dr. Bradley Yoder. At The University of Alabama, she synthesized palladium-acyl precatalysts with different ligands to couple primary and secondary amines with aryl halides under Dr. Kevin Shaughnessy. At POLYMAT in San Sebastian, Spain, she synthesized homogeneous and water-resistant nanofibers with a minimum polymer template concentration through green electrospinning techniques under Dr. Edurne Gonzalez. Her undergraduate research sparked her appreciation for the work that can be done at the interface of chemistry, biology, and materials chemistry. Abbie spends time playing with her cat Salem, hiking, and watching Alabama football.
